WHOA, okay, time out, new game plan..
Apr. 11th, 2014 10:43 am..and it starts with a capital NO.
Going forward I do NOT want anyone forwarding fanfiction, linking me to it, recommending authors, showing me their stories, I am DONE. I don't ever want to read any more fan fiction ever again. EVER.
If you haven't guessed by the posts, the fan art and the user icons, I'm very fond of Real Ghostbusters' Peter Venkman. I discovered this show when I was TEN. Not when I was a lonely, maudlin, 20something. TEN. I was the target audience. I had the toys, I squeed over the show with my friends, and along the way bonded with Peter. That was 28 years ago. That's a long ass time to be so fond of a character. And when you've grown up with a character that you've loved so much all this time, you know that character inside out and sideways.
I love Peter very much. I think he's hilarious, feisty, obnoxious, and adorable. As such, I don't want to read stories where he gets the shit stomped out of him. I don't really want to know what fangirls write in their own private time. But this does not mean I want to read any of it just because I like Real Ghostbusters. Why on earth would I want to be subjected to Peter being forcefed drugs or tortured or driven to tears or raped? He doesn't deserve being written about like that. That's awful!
I hate how fangirl writers take characters like Peter or KITT from Knight Rider or the Sentinel's Blair Sandburg, decide they LOVE the character, and then express that adoration by writing grotesque things about them and warping them so far OUT of character that they become unrecognizable. Doesn't anyone else see how repulsive that is? No? Anyone? Bueller?
Of course not. Not from this crowd.
So new game plan. No more fanfiction. I don't want to read about how gushy and spineless and weepy and girly your version of Peter is. I don't want to read about him being Egon's bedroom toy. I don't want to read about him having a uniform fetish. I don't want to read about him being tortured or hurt or whatever the hell else constitutes a "hurt/comfort" fetish.
I'll stick to my friends. People MY age who were also kids when the show debuted. People who get where I'm coming from and appreciate the show in the same way, and understand how much Peter means to me. People who understand and love the characters for who and what they are.
I'll also stick to my fanart where I can draw Peter with show quality accuracy, strive to do better, and keep him in character.
But I'm done with whatever constitutes Media Fandom and the fanfic it generates. That shit's nasty, yo.
P.S. Before anyone starts screaming, ""BUT THERE'S GOOD PETER STORIES OUT THAR!!!" Maybe there are. But I'll find them MYSELF, thanks. Go away.
And leave my favourite character alone.
